Item American Popular Culture in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman (1949)(University of Tlemcen, 2025-02-04) Otmani, YasminaThe current research paper entitled The American Popular Culture on Death of a Salesman seeks to analyze the play’s elements of American popular culture. This research aims to investigate how Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman intersects with literature and popular culture, providing a detailed analysis of how the play both reflects and criticizes American society. The methodology of this study combines reviewing literature, analyzing the historical context, and qualitative approach. This systematic approach ensures a comprehensive exploration of both the literary background of Death of a Salesman and its importance in American popular culture. Through the analysis of Arthur Miller’s play and the comparison approaches, this dissertation validates that American Popular culture exists in American literature work.Item Sociopragmatic Content Analysis of Algerian and American Idiomatic Expressions(University of Tlemcen, 2024-02-03) Benchaib, AbirThis research work focuses on the sociopragmatic aspects of Algerian and American idiomatic expressions, which are expressions that carry cultural meaning. The results indicate that the two languages have distinct paradigms based on different conceptualizations of the world. This suggests that individuals from diverse cultures and linguistic backgrounds may have different perceptions of the world in some cases, but share similar perspectives in others. The study highlights the role of idiomatic expressions in linguistic integration and highlights how they contribute to cognitive understanding, more fluid communication and the effective transmission of attitudes and emotions in a cultural context.Item Regency Revisited in Julia Quinn's Bridgerton: From Antiquity to Modernity(University of Tlemcen, 2025-02-03) Berri, NarimeneThis research provides an exploration of Regency England during the specified historical timeframe, as portrayed in the book series titled Bridgerton authored by Julia Quinn. The dissertation offers an examination of various socio-cultural facets prevalent during the said era, including standards for etiquette and social conduct, fashion trends, standards and societal expectations for women, and the role of the ruling British monarch. Through conduct of a thorough chronicle-based analysis and comparative evaluation of the Netflix adaptation, this study seeks to deliver a comprehensive factual understanding of the time period and accurate depiction within popular entertainment medium. Chapter one includes a meticulous contextual overview of pertinent political, societal and cultural attributes defining the Regency period within the United Kingdom, drawing upon primary source documentation and academic research to present a balanced perspective, absent subjective perspectives or opinions. Chapter two shifts focus to the Netflix television programme adaptation of Quinn's books. This section conducts an objective comparative evaluation of depicted content against recorded historical facts, assessing the portrayal of areas such as selected wardrobe design, set decoration schemes and represented archetypes. Through presenting findings of equitable exploration of both relevant source history and television representation, this thesis intends to transmit fact-based comprehension of the Regency era as shown within Quinn's Bridgerton works to interested parties, free of non-evidenced viewpoints.Item Teachers’ Errors Reduction Techniques for EFL Students Writing Case of 3rd year Students of The Department of English at Tlemcen University(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-03) Mahboub, Nadjlaa; Madani, NihadIt is common for many English Foreign language (EFL) students to make errors in their writing. The central objectives of this study focus on investigating teacher’s techniques to minimise students’ writing errors, and also identify the common mechanical errors among them. To achieve these objectives, an exploratory case study was conducted at the university of Tlemcen with L3 students of the Department of English. The researchers have used three instruments which involve questionnaires and interviews to gain insights about the three techniques employed by Comprehension and Written Production (CWP) teachers, namely modelling, peer-editing and individualised feedback, in addition to analysing some students’ essays and paragraphs to identify their most common mechanical errors. The findings of this study showed that the technique used most by teachersisindividualised feedback and that grammatical and spelling errors are the common errors among L3 students. Based on these findings practical suggestions and recommendations for teachers to implement certain techniques, and for students to reduce and correct their errors are put forward.Item Effects of Implementing Gamification in The English Course : A Case Study of Third Year Primary school EFL Pupils.(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-29) Benaissa, YassminaThe integration of gamification elements into English language learning has received increasing attention recently with the use of technology which is becoming a fundamental aspect when teaching a foreign language. English teachers must equip themselves with modern teaching techniques to achieve better learning outcomes. Yet, many teachers in Algeria still use traditional techniques. Conversely, the teaching and learning processes in the primary school need more attention, support, and materials for a good development. This study aims to examine how gamification and its elements can serve as an effective alternative to improve pupils’ motivation and develop their English language skills in the classroom. Thus, a mixed method approach was implemented to collect quantitative and qualitative data through using classroom observation, and a questionnaire addressed to two teachers. To reach this end, an exploratory case study was conducted with a third-year classroom at Ghattas Mohammed Primary School, in Maghnia, Wilaya of Tlemcen, and two EFL teachers from different primary schools. The findings showed that English language teachers prioritize the administrative program over creating a stimulating learning environment for their pupils. They lack creativity and innovation, as they do not incorporate gamification elements in their lessons. Using interviews, questionnaires, and observations, the research found that oral presentations improve skills like body language, voice cues, and personal space management. The findings support that oral presentations are effective for boosting non-verbal communication in EFL learners, providing valuable insights for educators and curriculum designers.Item Beyond Good and Evil: The Characterization of the Villain in the Joker Franchise(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-29) Loukili, Abdelillah; Medjaoui, RaniaCinema is considered to be a powerful means in storytelling captivating audiences by depicting complex characters. The villain is one of these characters. Originally known by the embodiment of evil opposing the hero in his journey. However, this research work is an attempt to deal with the development of the villain as a character throughout literature, comic books and movie adaptations. It examines the typical roles of the villain using comparative approach and studies the development of such character psychologically, as well as its changing perception and its influence on audience perspective. This comparative study deals with the character of the Joker in the TV show Batman TV Series (1966–1968) - and film adaptation Joker (2019) in order to further inspect the new role of the villain.Item Teacher’s Burnout and the Potential Impact on their Well-being and Teaching Effectiveness in Large-size Classes : Case of 1st year EFL teachers, university of Tlemcen .(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-29) Benabderrahmane, Ayyoub; Benabadji, YasserTeacher burnout is a significant issue within the educational sector, characterized by psychological exhaustion due to prolonged work stress. This dissertation focuses on the challenges faced by first-year EFL teachers at Abu Bakr Belkaied University of Tlemcen, particularly in managing large class sizes. The research aims to identify these challenges and suggest strategies to mitigate them, thereby improving teacher well-being and instructional effectiveness. Data were collected through observations and questionnaire surveys involving first-year EFL teachers, inspectors, and headmasters. The findings reveal that managing large classes presents several difficulties, such as maintaining student engagement, ensuring lesson comprehension, effective student grouping, and handling diverse student personalities and levels. The study concludes that employing specific strategies and techniques can help reduce these challenges, leading to better educational outcomes and a more supportive teaching environmentItem Rural –Urban Score Gap in Standardized Tests: A Comparative Study between 4th Year Learners in Mohammed Benhamou (Dermam/Sebdou) and Aouicha Hadj Slimane (Tlemcen) Middle Schools(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-29) Boucherifi, SarraThis comparative study attempted to investigate the EFL teachers awareness towards the rural –urban score gap in standardized tests and to explore the factors contributing to this score gap.Hence ,the study was conducted with fourth year Middle School learners (4 MS) from ‘Aouicha Hadj Slimane’ in Tlemcen and learners from ‘Mohammed Benhamou’ in Dermam /Sebdou.To this end, two types of instruments were used ;a questionnaire for learners and a semi structured interview with teachers . This study seeks to explore gender differences in language behaviour in Tlemcenian speech and it sheds light on hegemonic masculinity within this speech community.Item A Postcolonial Study of Arundhati Roy’s Novel The God of Small Things (1997)(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-28) Kherbouche, HalimaThis dissertation examines the circumstances of the process of colonisation and the effects resulting from the relationship between the ‗colonizer‘ and the ‗colonized‘.It aims to investigate the postcolonial aspects in The God of Small Things written by the Indian Arundhati Roy (1997).The novel turns around t h e s t o r y o f t h e twin c h a r a c t e r s namely: Esthaben and Rahel. They were living with their divorced mother in her paternal house with grandparents, uncle and aunt. The visit of their English cousin Sophie Mol to India depicted vividly the coloniser colonised relationship. The dilemma was when Sophie Mol was drowned in the river, things turned around, secrets started to be revealed and the twin were separated. The novel includes different issues such as racism, social crash and social classes, religious struggles (castes) power represented in the coloniser and weakness of the colonized in addition to the ideological beliefs of superiority and inferiority.Item Kendrick Lamar; Challenging Racism, Oppression and White Supremacy through Hip-hop Music(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-28) Mouaoued, AyoubThis study tackles the multiple struggles and hardships that faced African Americans throughout history. Harmful treatment under slavery, racial discrimination, oppression, and White Supremacy resulted in the black's political and cultural revolts. Politically, it was the Civil Rights Movement by many famous black figures such as Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X, and culturally, the Harlem Renaissance movement. Hip-hop, as well, was a significant means by which rappers like Kendrick Lamar discussed several issues that face the black race in the United States, such as white Supremacy, oppression, and police brutality. The methodology used to answer the research questions is the analytical approach. This research work tries to identify the contribution of Kendrick Lamar to contest issues of racism, oppression and White Supremacy in the African American community.Item Teaching Reading to Young Learners Case of English as a Foreign Language in Primary Education in Tlemcen(2025-01-28) Benmansour Cherif, ChafikaAlgeria knew a total transformation in language policy as English was introduced at the level of primary education (third grade). The research work studied the instruction of foreign language skills for young learners and mainly reading skill, the difficulty as well encountered by primary school English teachers in teaching reading skill in particular. It attempted to seek for young learners’ failure in reading. The investigation relied on one research instrument, a questionnaire designed and delivered on line to sixteen primary school English teachers for the collection of data which was analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively .The results revealed that young learners have indeed a great difficulty in decoding English words mainly because they are not able to recognize the relationship between letters and sounds in addition to some extra reasons mentioned in the third chapter. On the basis of these results , various suggestions and recommendations were provided to improve young learners’ reading skill and to ease the task to primary school English teachers among which :more practice and repetition on the board ,extra hours devoted for English language , less crowded classrooms in addition to the ‘necessary’ teaching materials.Item The Question of Palestine: Britain’s Role in Instigating a Long-lasting Conflict(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-27) Belkhouane, WalidThe date of the declaration of the Israeli entity in 1948 marks a pivotal point in the history of the Middle East and the Arab region. Britain was and will remain the first and most significant country to contribute to this declaration through policies and measures that spanned many years to achieve this goal. The aim of this research study is to shed light on Britain's essential role in the establishment of Israel, relying on a range of books and historical sources. This thesis, consisting of two chapters, addresses a historical and analytical study of Britain's role in the occupation of Palestine in 1948. This is done through reviewing the main historical events that significantly contributed to this process and then analyzing them. This study begins by reviewing the historical relationship between Britain and the Ottoman Empire and studying Britain's active role in weakening and dismantling the Ottoman Empire by supporting the most important revolution witnessed by the Arab region during that period, namely the Great Arab Revolt. This study continues to review the British plan, in collaboration with Western colonial powers, aimed at dividing the Arab region, represented by the Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1916. This thesis also highlights the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which is considered one of the crucial turning points in British policy towards establishing a national homeland for the Jews in Palestine. It further examines the period of British mandate over Palestine and the oppressive policies towards the Palestinians, which paved the way for the ultimate goal of establishing the State of Israel.Item Teachers' Role in Reducing EFL Students' Speaking Anxiety during Oral Presentations: The Case of FirstYear Students at the Department of English at Telmcen University(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-27) Benmeziane, HananeL'étude examine comment les stratégies d'enseignement peuvent réduire l'anxiété orale chez les étudiants étrangers d'anglais de première année (EFL). En analysant les facteurs qui contribuent à cette anxiété et les stratégies d'apprentissage utilisées pour la gérer, notamment pendant les présentations orales, une approche mixte qualitative et quantitative a été employée. Réalisée au département d'anglais de l'Université de Tlemcen, l'étude a impliqué quarante-neuf participants. Les résultats indiquent que les pratiques pédagogiques des éducateurs sont essentielles pour surmonter les difficultés d'expression orale, créant ainsi un environnement d'apprentissage positif et réactif.Item ARABIC/FRENCH CODE SWITCHING AMONG DOCTORS AND PATIENTS IN A RURAL CONTEXT: THE CASE OF BENI SNOUS(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-27) Lahmer, Rayane Rihabn the medical field, communication is an important component of clinical practice for both doctors and patients to provide a satisfactory medical care. Poor interaction can lead to inaccurate diagnosis. The main objective of this research was to examine language use in the Algerian rural healthcare contexts, and to look into the problems of communication that existed between doctors and patients as a result of historical, educational, social, and economic factors which led to linguistic gaps among members of the community. Also, the research sought to identify the main reasons of alternation between Algerian Arabic and French among doctors and patients. A case study was conducted in some private medical offices and public hospital in ‘Beni-Snous’ valley which is situated in Tlemcen, Algeria. Relying on a number of sources and research instruments for data collection, a questionnaire was conducted for doctors, another one for patients and consultation observation using note-taking and recording. The data collected from these research tools were analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results revealed that language barriers existed between doctors and patients due to variation in French language proficiency as well as the use of complex medical terminology. Thus, doctors code switch between Arabic and French to achieve many functions. This study came to conclusion that language barriers and code switching are sociolinguistic phenomenon that existed in the medical field in Algerian healthcare settings in general and rural healthcare settings in particular. translate to French.Item Magical Realism in Isabel Allende‘s The House of Spirits(University of Tlemcen, 2025-01-27)Our research study revolves around Magical Realism in the novel of 'the House of Spirits' written by the Chilean writer, Isabel Allende.This novel had treatned the depths of Chilean society and talked about one of the most important periods that passed on the history of Chile, where the country was suffering from social and economic problems, and mainly the political problems that ( the military coup ‗le coup d'État‘ ), focusing on magical events. The study was devided into an introduction, two chapters, and a conclusion. In the general introduction, we have dealt with Magical Realism, specifically its use by the novelist. In the first chapter, we have defined the concept of Magical Realism, its presence in Latin America, its characteristics and types. we have referred to the concept of Magical Realism, its characteristics and Types. As for the second chapter, entitled ―Magical Realism in Isabel Allende‘s House of Spirits,‖ , in which we have presented an overview of the writer‘s life and her works, as well as a summary of the novel, its social and political contexts, and the main elements of Magical Realism in the novel. Then we have presented a general conclusion where we have exposed the most important results that we obtained using the analytical method.
