This study examines the phenomenon of fan led video game translation (fan translation) as a critical intervention in audiovisual translation (AVT) and game localization. While official localization prioritizes marketability and cultural adaptation, fan translations emerge to address gaps in accessibility, linguistic fidelity, and cultural preservation particularly for games neglected by publishers. Through a mixed-methods approach combining textual analysis and case studies (e.g., Final Fantasy V, Mother 3), this research explores how fan translations challenge industry norms, foster global player communities, and influence commercial practices.
