Abstract
It has become axiomatic that assessments impact powerfully on student learning. This study
explore the impact of Formative and summative assessments on effective teaching strategies and
student achievement . It articulate the precise ways in which these assessments influence the
implementation of effective teaching strategies, ultimately leading to measurable improvements in
student achievement .This case study is undertaken Ahmed BEY secondary school with first and
second year students, as well as with 32 teachers from Tlemcen city. The data gathered were
analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The research tools including the questionnaires and
classroom observation revealed unbalanced use of assessments in ELT classrooms what pushed to
conclude with some practical suggestions to reach better learning outcomes.
