As we move from the epic to the novel, we notice a graduai and consistent décline of the hero. From the epic hero with his supernatural strength to the hero of the médiéval romance, we hâve already moved from the God-like stature to human level. The médiéval romantic hero is a great warrior and a great lover, sometimes with great moral strength as well , as in the case of Sir Galahad in Lg Morte Arthur . In the médiéval romance we are still in the world of legend and fantasy. Novel as a genre dépends more on realism than on fantasy and the characters are not extraordinary human beings like the characters of the epic or even of the médiéval romance. The characters are supposed to be ordinary people living in normal social situations. se The émergence ofen_US
