Abstract
The present study is put together in order to explore the theme of duality in Raskolnikov’s
character by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It examines the purpose of Dostoevsky beyond utilizing this
literary technique, as it emphasizes the factors, he provides to deeply highlight this duality in
such a way that allows it to be strongly linked to Raskolnikov's character in the realm of literature.
This study aims to demonstrate the psychological state of Raskolnikov’s character and the effect
of dualism on his behaviour. This research brings to light the literary devices Dostoevsky
employs in an effort to reveal the character’s dual nature and his philosophical aspects, the first
chapter represents a comprehensive and general overview of dualism of character in the context
of literature, history and psychology. As for the second chapter, it analyses and studies the
function and image of duality in the character of Raskolnikov, depicting his complexities and
inner turmoil
