AI-Powered Biobank Infrastructure for Parasitic Diseases: Focus on Gastrointestinal Parasites to Enhance Sustainable Health Systems

Abstract

Intestinal parasites remain a significant public health issue requiring accurate diagnosis and structured medical data management. This project aims to design and implement an AI-powered biobank platform dedicated to gastrointestinal parasites. The system combines digital sample management with artificial intelligence techniques for microscopic image analysis and parasite egg classification. Deep learning, self-supervised learning, and semi-supervised learning approaches were explored to address the limitation of labeled data and support AI assisted diagnosis. The platform enables sample registration, image upload, expert validation, result storage, and digital report generation. It also falls within the framework of Ministerial Decree No. 1275 as an innovative graduation project with startup potential in digital health and medical AI. This work represents a step toward a future physical biobank supporting diagnosis, research, and sustainable healthcare systems in Algeria.
