Abstract
This work aims to investigate the attitudes of students and professors towards the
use of the English language as a medium of instruction in scientific subjects in
Algerian higher education. The study results showed that both students and
professors recognize the importance of the English language, and expressed their
positive stance towards its use as a tool for learning and teaching in the scientific
field, despite the students' preference for the French language as their first foreign
language. Based on the obtained results, this study provides some educational
guidelines for teachers, students, and policymakers to ensure the effective use of the
English language as a medium of instruction in Algerian universities.
