| dc.description.abstract | Language as a complex phenomenon has attracted the attention of many linguists who relied on different methods in order to investigate this powerful medium of communication. In fact, the use of language varies from one country to another and even within a single country, we may find a number of local varieties and even within a speech community, it may differs from one speaker to another who may express the same thing through a variety of linguistic ways according to his age, level of education, and economics status. Sociolinguists have explained this fact as language variation. The study of sociolinguistic variation has emerged since the 1960’s partly as a result of inadequate methods in earlier approaches to the study of dialects, and partly as a reaction to Chomskyan linguistic theory, whose main goal is to study language as an abstract system far from any relationship between language and society..... | en_US |
