Literary translation into Arabic language has a very crucial role in thriving Arabic literature and broadening our social and cultural horizons. However, this type of translation requires a very high level of precision and expertise in the field to attain the translated the best version of translation similarly to the original in style, depth, and emotional impact. When discussing translation shifts, we find some strategies that go beyond literal translation or even meaning-based translation. The goal here is to preserve the original context, rhythm, and most importantly-the emotional effect that the author wanted to let in the reader’s mind. In The English Patient, the author, Michael Ondaatje, narrates events with remarkable spontaneity, captivating readers through simplicity and vivid descriptions. This stylistic essence compelled the translator to target the same literary value, carefully selecting words and expressions that align with the wanted meanings. But he did really exaggerate in some stylistic choices, leading to slight deviations from the original meaning. The shift must be a justified strategy that serve a clear purpose, rather than being arbitrary choices.
