Abstract
Dental implant placement in growing children is a delicate procedure due to the potential impact on craniofacial
development and the evolving nature of bone structures.
This study aimed to assess the clinical feasibility of dental implant placement in pediatric patients.
A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, ProQuest, and ScienceDirect, covering the period
from 2000 to 2025. Keywords were based on MeSH terms related to 'Pediatric Dental Implant'.
15 relevant articles were selected and analyzed based on clinical parameters:
- Etiology: Ectodermal dysplasia is the most frequently reported condition.
- Age: Implantation is reported as early as age 6.
- Region: The mandibular symphysis is the most stable site.
- Growth: Assessed via ANB angle (cephalometry) and wrist X-ray.
- Implant Type: Mostly endosseous, mini-implants (MDIs) used in complex cases.
- Prosthetic Design: Overdentures are the most common.
Implant placement is feasible in children depending on the clinical case and with careful multidisciplinary
evaluation.
