Abstract

This research deals with importance of translation in overcoming the linguistic gap between different cultures, and focuses on the fact that idiomatic expressions are a prominent cultural phenomenon that plays an important role in conveying cultural heritage. To achieve successful translation, the translator needs to have sufficient cultural and linguistic knowledge that enables him to find an equivalent for such expressions in the target language. Our research problem revolves around the effectiveness of translation in preserving the meaning of idiomatic and cultural expressions in the Arabic language, as well as the prominent techniques used in translating these expressions.
