Abstract Diabetes is a chronic disease, a major public health problem caused by high blood sugar and insulin resistance. There are several forms of diabetes, the causes of which are often intertwined. Complications of this burden target various parts of the body including the eyes, kidneys, nerves and even arteries; thus causing retinopathy, kidney failure, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and other pathologies. Our study is based on a main objective, which is to understand the impact of oxidative stress on diabetes mellitus and this by analyzing 4 articles. The results of these articles confirm the existence of a close relationship between glycemic imbalance and the imbalance in the balance of oxidants and antioxidants. Hyperglycemia causes excessive production of free radicals, a decrease in antioxidants (vitamins, enzymes, minerals, etc.) and oxidation of biological macromolecules inducing highly dangerous damage and over time causing very serious diabetic complications. Perfect glycemic and insulin control, a healthy, balanced, varied diet rich in antioxidants (fruits and vegetables) are recommendations that are important for neutralizing free radicals and oxidative stress.
