Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and José Martí played crucial roles in the struggle for Cuban independence (1868-1898). Céspedes began the war of independence by proclaiming the freedom of the slaves and calling for rebellion. While Martí organized the Cuban Revolutionary Party and promoted unity and resistance against Spanish rule. Both leaders inspired and mobilized the Cuban people, and their legacy laid the foundation for the Spanish-CubanAmerican War that ultimately led to the emancipation of Cuba in 1898.en_US
