Abstract
This extended essay tried to shed light on the effects of computerized
programmes on developing reading comprehension skills use by EFL
students in their academic studies, in the environment where technology
devices are used. The study aimed to investigate the benefits of the advances
in technologies that make change in the texts and tools available to teachers
and students; these technological advances have created to be used as
instructional tools for literacy education. For this purpose, the researcher
used tow research tools, a questionnaire for students and an interview for
teachers. In this research work, quantitative and qualitative data were used.
The sample was purposely chosen by the researcher of about twenty five (25)
second year students at English department, University of Tlemcen. The
results obtained from this investigation demonstrate the necessity of
implementing CALL programmes in teaching English to bring better
outcomes in students’ academic achievement of English. In the light of these
results, this study suggested that EFL teachers should use computer as a tool
in order to develop and enhance the students’ attitudes towards learning in
general and reading in particular especially at the academic level.
