Abstract
The aging of Algerian population is experiencing a growing prevalence of chronic diseases
that require continuous medication management. Medication non-adherence remains a significant
challenge among elderly patients, often resulting from forgetfulness, dose confusion, reduced
visual acuity, and the absence of accessible, Arabic-adapted digital health tools.
This project presents MediGuide, a mobile medication reminder application specifically
designed for elderly Algerian users. The application provides three interconnected interfaces: a
pharmacist interface for digital prescription management, a simplified patient interface featuring
large buttons, high-contrast visuals, and multilingual voice reminders in Arabic, French, and
English, and a caregiver interface enabling real-time monitoring of medication adherence and
automated missed-dose alerts.
MediGuide was developed using Flutter for the mobile frontend and Firebase for backend
services, ensuring secure data management and automatic synchronization. The application
delivers multimodal reminders through visual notifications, audible alerts, and voice guidance to
support elderly users in following their treatment schedules.
The proposed solution contributes to improving medication adherence, reducing medication
errors, and strengthening communication between patients, pharmacists, and caregivers in a
culturally adapted Algerian context.
