The present work proposes theoretical and practical frameworks to understand the ambiguity of washback phenomenon and its effect on learners’ oral proficiency. To this end, a statistical action research was conducted to understand the possible correlation existing between test washback and teachers’ teaching method; and the effects of these tests on second-year EFL learners’ oral proficiency and their psychological state. This investigation tries to suggest effective ways to help both teachers and learners understand test washback and work collaboratively to promote positive washback throughout their learning process.en_US
