The present dissertation proposes theoretical and practical frameworks to hopefully understand the place of self-confidence in language learning in general, and speaking competence in particular. It revolves around investigating and analysing relationships between selfconfidence and pronunciation practice and the effects of these variables on first-year EFL learners’ general speaking competence. Such a puzzling debate is one motive towards conducting the present research work. It strives, then, to raise these problems and resolve some aspects of the current debate for a valuable contribution to the English language teaching profession.en_US
