Résumé: The corrosion inhibition of carbon steel by different sizes of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and povidone iodine (PVP-I) was carried out in perchloric acid medium once molar by loss of mass. The influence of concentration, temperature and immersion time on the inhibition efficiency of inhibitors was studied. The results show that both PVP and PVP-I effectively inhibit the corrosion of carbon steel through an exothermic, spontaneous process and the adsorption of the molecules follows the Langmuir isotherm. The presence of iodide increases the corrosion inhibition rate from 80.55% to 97.44% through the synergistic effect. The study of the surface morphology (SEM) of steel confirms the presence of a protective and adherent layer on the metal surface that limits the penetration of the electrolyte. The best efficiencies for unrealized experiments were established by design of experiment (DOE). The theoretical calculations (DFT) of the efficacy of the two inhibitors are in agreement with the mass loss results.
