Abstract

This dissertation aims to present a critical analytical study of the Arabic translation of *Ulysses*, the novel by Irish author James Joyce, as translated by Salah Niazi. The study relies on modern translation theories, particularly Katharina Reiss’s model for translation criticism. *Ulysses* is widely considered one of the most complex literary works in terms of style and structure, posing a significant challenge to translators working from English into Arabic. The practical part of the research analyzes five selected pages from the Arabic version, comparing original excerpts with their translations and offering a critical reading of style, accuracy, and terminological choices. The theoretical chapter addresses key issues in literary translation, such as the relationship between translation and literary discourse, the problem of terminology and stylistics, and criticism of translations from English into Arabic. The study concludes that literary translation requires not only linguistic competence but also a deep understanding of the text, cultural context, and analytical tools for assessing translation quality.
