dc.description.abstractThe present study aims to shed light on the challenges and obstacles facing EFL students’ competence to understand English implicatures .A case study is conducted with the use of two research instruments ; a questionnaire for the students and an interview for the teachers.Besides,this work takes place at the Department of English in the University of Tlemcen dealing with Master students .Based on the results obtained from gathering and analyzing data, it has been proved that the factors affecting Algerian EFL students’ competence to understand implicature are socio-cultural differences between English and Arabic , negative transfer from L1 to L2 ,indirectness and lack of authentic input and exposure to the target language environment .en_US
