Abstract
The present work was conducted to explore the use of recreation activities in EFL
classrooms. This issue was chosen because it exposes a general fact which happened in
almost EFL classes. The purpose of this investigation is to exhibit adequate
understanding of the importance of using these activities as a tool to improve English
speaking skills. Therefore, this research is a case-study of first EFL students at the
department of English at the University of Tlemcen. Three instruments were used in
collecting data; teachers’ questionnaire, a structured interview for students and
classroom grid. Moreover, quantitative and qualitative approaches were used to
analyse the obtained results. The results revealed that the majority of EFL students as
well as teachers held positive attitudes towards the use of recreational activities.
