Crossing Borders, Shifting Beliefs: The Influence of Studying Abroad on Algerian Returnees’ Identities and Cultural Beliefs

The Algerian higher educational system has integrated scholarships and exchange programs to provide students with opportunities for higher quality learning. This study aims at providing a comprehensive overview regarding the impact of long-term study abroad experiences on students’ identities and attitudes, examining factors that influence and lead to the readjustment and reconstruction of the identity. It was conducted in Tlemcen university within its different departments and beyond. Semi-structured interviews were used to elicit participant’s narratives and experiences. The data were analysed using thematic analysis and inductive approach. Results showed that returnees were through different means influenced by the different cultures they were living within and their identities shifted.

The importance of teaching listening and speaking in the algerian primary schools

This study investigates the teaching of listening and speaking skills in Algerian primary schools following the recent introduction of English at this level. As essential components of early language learning, these oral skills are often underdeveloped due to curriculum limitations, insufficient teacher training, and lack of resources. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines data from teacher questionnaires, interviews, and an observation to explore how oral skills are taught, the challenges faced, and the strategies used. Results indicate limited integration of listening and speaking activities and highlight the need for improved training, resource support, and curriculum reform. The study calls for a more communicative, learner-centered approach to enhance oral proficiency and support English language development in young learners.

L’apport du travail collaboratif dans l’exécution d’une tâche de dictée dans une classe 2ème AM. Etablissement : Si Tarek

Cette étude met en lumière de manière approfondie l'importance du travail en groupe dans la réalisation d'une dictée chez les élèves de 2e année moyenne. Afin de mener à bien cette recherche, nous avons combiné plusieurs outils méthodologiques complémentaires : un questionnaire destiné aux enseignants, une grille d'observation appliquée en classe, ainsi que l'analyse des copies produites par les élèves. Les données recueillies indiquent clairement que l'apprentissage collaboratif joue un rôle essentiel dans l'amélioration des compétences linguistiques des élèves. Il contribue également au développement de leur autonomie, tout en stimulant leur participation active à travers des interactions riches, fondées sur la réflexion collective. Ces résultats soulignent ainsi la valeur pédagogique du travail en groupe dans le contexte de l'enseignement de la dictée.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Multilingualism: Investigating Language Perception Among University Students

This research is an investigation of AI integration in language learning, particularly, in education. The research conducted the scope to AI’ influence and impact on multilingual students’ practices and perceptions. Thus, the purpose of the present research is an attempt to put forward a neat and clear ground for theories to emerge naturally. A questionnaire, semi structured interview, and document analysis were applied to interpret the data to reflect the hypothesis. The results of the research conducted attitude towards AI and learning methods; this area is in a need of further research.

Accent en français parlé en Algérie. Etude des pratiques et représentations auprès de jeunes filles et garçons témouchentois.

Le paysage sociolinguistique algérien se laisse être caractérisé par le phénomène de plurilinguisme qui, quant à lui, se représente étant l’existence concomitante de deux ou de plusieurs langues ou de variétés de langue au sein du même territoire. Dans ce cas, nous qualifions les locuteurs de ce pays qui ont recours à ces langues et/ou variétés de langue de plurilingues. Ce qui fait le cas pour la communauté linguistique algérienne, où entremêlent la langue maternelle des algériens (l’arabe algérien et ses variétés, le berbère et ses variétés) et le français étant langue étrangère. Par ce modeste travail, nous expliciterons le cas des jeunes algériens, chez qui le français est omniprésent. Nous nous intéressons à leurs parlers voire : les prononciations des phonèmes français d’une part ainsi que leurs représentations vis-à-vis de leurs prononciations.
